The Porter.

"But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. TO HIM THE PORTER OPENETH; AND THE SHEEP HEAR HIS VOICE: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice." (Joh 10:2-4)

# The Sheepfold.

No one can hear the Voice of God without the Porter opening the door, for it is practically impossible. Thieves and robbers can fake voices, but it can never be the Voice of God. If you do not belong to the sheepfold of God (not Born-again), you can never directly hear the Voice of God. To belong to God's sheepfold, you would have been given a name (i.e., your name is already written in the Book of Life of the Lamb/Shepherd), without a name you can't be led about by the Shepherd. 

# His Voice.

To all those that there names are already written in the Book of life, they hear their names "called" out, and they obey by following the Voice of the Shepherd. If you don't hear or know your calling, you can't be led outside the door to the pasture. You need to know your calling else you will starve. A lot lies in knowing what you are being called for to do before you are led outside the door. Without proper hearing, you might not be able to "FOLLOW", not pushed from behind. Your survival is strongly dependant on your hearing and knowing the Voice before stepping out.

There many other voices you sure will encounter once you step out to the pastures. There are foxes and serpents too all on the path to the greener pasture, and it all depends on how responsive you are to the Voice.

~ So, how do I know the Voice of God?

~ You need the Porter (i.e., the Holy Spirit).

You must belong to the sheepfold of Christ to have the Porter open the door of your heart to know the Voice of God, otherwise, it's the Voice of the enemy you're hearing. BE BORN AGAIN OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD.

# Be Born-again.

There is a sheepfold that is not of this fallen world. In this fold, the sheep have new names they are called by and they know their names are written in the Book of Life. The sheep knows their calling and they respond to the Voice of the Shepherd that comes to lead them (in front, not push them) in and out to the pastures.

The only way into this fold is to be Born-again. You have to be born-again by the Spirit of God to know the Voice of God, else other voices could use the letters of the Word of God against your liberty. "Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." (2Co 3:6)
